Features

Savings Plus© is a Banking software that handles financial records and statements, banking transactions (deposits, withdrawals), loans, and many other records for Savings and Credit Co-Operatives (SACCOS) of any size. It comprises of eleven key modules (Savings, Shares, Loans, Chart of accounts, Expenses, Fixed Assets Registry, SMS Banking, Receivables, Investments, Payables and Income) which make the management and tracking of savings and loans easy plus other complementary modules that make Savings Plus even more useful and easy to use. It also generates all reports that are relevant to the management of a SACCO both for internal and external reporting. It is registered and approved by CGAP – World Bank.

The modules of Savings Plus© are:

Savings module

This module provides the ability to capture records of savings deposits, withdrawals as well as enabling the SACCO to define savings products suited to their client’s needs. Other features include:

  •  Creating savings products (compulsory savings, fixed deposits, free savings, etc) and defining their attributes such as interest rate, opening balance, minimum balance, maturity period, percentage charge and/or flat charge on deposits and withdrawals, monthly charges, etc.`                                                                                
  • Managing savings products (update, delete)
  • Awarding interest periodically.
  • Managing members’ accounts (opening, closing, updating)
  • Managing transactions (savings withdrawals and deposits)
  • Automatic loan repayment from savings
  • Payment to any other account from savings
Members & Shares module

Savings Plus distinguishes between paid up shareholders and ordinary customers of the SACCO and enables tracking of their details such as number of shareholders and how many shares they have, transferring shares from one shareholder to another, sharing dividends, etc. Other features include:

  • Managing members (registration, update, delete)
  • Shares management (purchase, transfer, update, delete)
  • Sharing dividends annually
Managing groups (Creating, updating and deleting a group)
Loans module

This module alongside the savings module forms the heart of a SACCO. This module enables creation and management of different loan products, tracking of both individual and group loans, tracking of the entire loan process from application through disbursement and re-payment. Other features include:

  • Creating loan products and defining their attributes such as interest rate, repayment period, etc.
  • Managing loan products (update, delete)
  • Managing the loan process from application to approval, disbursement and then repayment.
  • Write-off and recovery of bad loans
  • Automatic calculation of interest payable (based on Reducing Balance, Flat, or Armotised method)
  • Levying and payment of penalties on arrears
Chart of Accounts

The chart of accounts presents an easy ready-made hierarchy of categorized accounts from the top level accounts such as assets, liabilities, expenses, income and equity to finer details of specific accounts. The ability to create and define your own accounts under the above categories makes this module a joy to use. Other features include:

  • Categorized accounts that are easy for even non accounting professionals to use.
  • Define and edit/delete new accounts under each available category.
Tracks receivables, loans and accounts payable, fixed assets (including depreciation and disposal), expenses, accounts and loans payables with their respective payments, capital reserve funds, etc.
Cash Management

This is a small module that enables the SACCO to keep track of both its bank and cash accounts. It includes the following features:

  • Create and manage (update/delete) bank/cash accounts.
  • Set account parameters such as minimum balance.

Savings Plus comes with a wealth of informative and relevant reports to assist the SACCO management in decision making and also reporting to industry regulators. Some of the reports are highlighted below:

These are summarised analyses of the SACCO’s performance and financial well being at different times. They include the following indicators:

    2. Effective re-payment rate.
    3. Portfolio at risk.

Settings

Savings Plus enables the SACCO to set certain important parameters that govern the operations of the SACCO. These include loan loss provisions, minimum shares per member, maximum loan shares percentage, SACCO name, etc. These settings can be edited when ever necessary by a user with the appropriate privileges.

Holidays

This module helps the SACCO to ensure that no repayments are scheduled on public holidays in whatever country the SACCO is operating in. Savings Plus does not schedule a payment on a weekend or a registered public holiday. Some of the features are:

  • Manage holidays (Add/edit/delete).
Set annual or recurring holidays.
Staff

This module enables the SACCO to keep a record of staff handling different functions of the SACCO. It has the following features:

  • Manage staff members (Add/Edit/Delete).
Users & Security

Savings Plus comes with three built-in user roles namely; manager, accountant and loan officer. Every user on the system must have one of the above roles. The different roles have different access privileges and access to their accounts is secured by a username and encrypted password. Other features include:

  • Time based access restrictions – the manager can set the time of day that a given user can access the system.
  • Audit trails – this enables tracking of what users do on the system and guarantee accountability.
  • Activating/de-activating user accounts.
  • Data Management & Support Tools

    Savings Plus comes with built-in data backup and recovery tools to assist the SACCO to maintain proper backups of its database. This guarantees the SACCO minimum downtime should their installed system have any problem. It does  weekly automatic backups. Savings Plus support is available by phone, email, instant messenger and through the forums on the Savings Plus website.

    Savings Plus also contains an FAQ-style help manual that can guide the user on how to accomplish various tasks. It is advisable to first consult this manual before contacting us for support.
